For any arts organization, the fifth year is a significant landmark. At that point they have demonstrated viability, established their reputation and developed a following. Under the visionary leadership of its directors, Vatsche Barsoumian and Movses Pogossian, the Dilijan Chamber Music Series in Los Angeles has accomplished all this and more. It is now one of the jewels of the Southern California arts scene.
This is due to the consistent quality of their performances as well as to their unique mission: to present the classics of Western classical chamber music to Armenian
-American audiences and to bring new Armenian music to a wider public.
No finer example of their success could be imagined than their concert of April 25 at Zipper Hall. (more…)

The Rotunda is on the second floor of the Powell Library Building, which is directly across from Royce Hall. Parking is $10; the closest parking is in structures 4, 2, or 5. See the UCLA maps and directions page for more information.
Admission is free, and seating is unreserved.

♫ Thursday, December 10th, 2009On November 20, 2009, the entire cello studio participated in a concert in Powell Library Rotunda. Works included a four-cello arrangement of Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” Tchaikovsky’s Andante Cantabile for cello quartet, and several works for multiple cellos: Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasilieras No. 5, with soprano, “Les Rois Mages” from Pablo Casals’ oratorio for six celli, and a premiere of Peter Golub’s Elegy for twelve celli. The concert ended on a high note with an arrangement of the theme from The Simpsons.
